dramatic, action-packed, emotional, and nearly an hour long, the 2010 OVA is what introduced many people to the black rock shooter franchise. the ova was succesful enough to be adapted into an eight-episode-long anime in 2012. the story follows two best friends in high school: mato kuroi and yomi takanashi. the two become best friends on the first day of junior high school, but eventually drift apart when mato spends less time with yomi. eventually, yomi disappears, and mato goes to look for her. meanwhile, black rock shooter fights several enemies in an unknown wasteland, the circumstances of which may have to do with yomi's disappearance...
this was the first piece of black rock shooter media i ever saw, and i was hooked immediately. mato and yomi has to be among my favorite anime ships (along with kawoshin and madohomu). in addition to seeing mato and yomi's turbolous high school life, viewers get to see some SPLENDID fight choreography with the mysterious figures, black rock shooter and dead master. (black gold saw and strength also make cameos, though they were properly introduced later in the 2012 anime.) it's one of my favorite anime movies, and definitely worth a watch if you're into badass fight scenes and wlm rep.
