welcome to the evangelion section of my website ! it goes without saying that evangelion is one of the darkest and most iconic animes of the retro era, if not of all time. the post-apocalyptic scenery, the character arcs, the cinematography (ESPECIALLY the rebuilds), and the OST - there is not a single element of this franchise that particularly disappointed me. it is a brutal deconstruction of super robot and shonen anime, and it does NOT pack any punches.
the reason i watched this anime in the first place was 1. i heard it was a dark deconstruction and was like "wow i want to go on a journey" and 2. kaworu was looking mighty fine 😳 ofc he didn't disappoint, in fact he straight up became one of my all time favorite anime characters. idk why hes not as popular as rei or asuka
it's a shame i got into this franchise right when it virtually ended with 3.0 + 1.0, because being in the active fandom seems like it would have been a wonderful experience - the kawoshin angst era of 2013 tumblr, and the nostalgic 90s sites having a lot of evangelion content. thankfully, the fandom is still going fairly strong thanks to the appeal of its waifus and memes, as well as being considered a "gateway anime".
i highly recommend you check this masterpiece out, though you should be in the right mental state to. you can buy it on DVD or stream it online (though, if watching dubbed, you should go compare the dubs first and then make a decision yourself, cause there are a LOT).
