puella magi madoka magica holds a special place in my heart for many reasons, one of the main ones being that it was one of the first animes i watched. i saw the girls on a deviantart dress up game and was like "oh cool!" then i learned it was angsty and thought "why not?" and that's part of the reason that
i'm the way i am.
needless to say, it was a wonderful experience. the character designs, the
scenery, the drama, the backstories - all of it was well-written and kept me
hooked. i wanted to give every one of these poor girls a hug like SCREW YOU
KYUBEY!!
the story follows madoka kaname, an ordinary middle schooler with a happy
family and many friends. one day, she is attacked by a monster called a
"witch", and rescued by a magical girl. she then meets kyubey, a mysterious creature who
tells her to contract with him and become a magical girl in order to defeat
the witches. however, madoka is stumped about what she wants to wish for,
and things are not what they seem...
i absolutely recommend this show!! it is one of the most popular "gateway
shows" to watch if you want to get into anime, and definitely recommend if
you want something that has a precurey aesthetic but dark themes (not crap
like "magical girl site" or "spec ops asuka"). there's no way you'll ever
regret it! (but that's what sayaka said, after all...)
